The Myth of Star Wars

So with all talk for the past several months about the new Star Wars , I , me  , feel the need to chime in on my favorite film series and to debunk some myths that have been hanging around for some 30 years.

Now to go into a new series of films you do think back to the past ones , its easy to do , but your going to hurt yourself and the series if you do that. Not physically , emotionally. With any new series you have to go in with no expectations and don't go in remembering how great the past films were. Of course 4 ,5 and 6 are classics , but so can 1 ,2 and 3. But what people did was compare them to 4,5, and 6 and never let the other one's shine in their own light.  Now i'm not saying all 6 were perfect. Yes jar jar was a nuisance but  i respect Lucas for trying  to put some silly into a political sci-fi space opera. In fact ep. 1  is the weakest of the star wars movies due to jar jar and way too much political plot.  We have Qui Gon and his battle with Darth Maul , we have the funny younger looking Yoda puppet , we have the Tatooine version of NASCAR  ,  the last battle scene. Darth Maul cut in half was a plus , and that cloning  ,not electronics , is the way  to start an army. Ep. 2  brought us the trouble youth of Anakin  and George Lucas lack of ability  to direct his actors who are playing iconic roles. To be fair to Hayden , yes we are on first name bases ,  it would be hard to deliver those lines and be brooding at the same time.  I had no problems with him in that role and what Anakin  does in all of them is what Darth would do down the road of life. Which is why there are myths about star wars. Ep. 5  is  the "dark one" of the series. not true. Yes its darker than Jedi , but not as dark as a new hope. C3PO  is burning  dead Jawas , Luke comes home to see aunt and uncle burned up like ribs at a chilli's. That's dark. Empire , not so much. Putting Han in carbon freezing is not dark. Luke being told who his real father is after getting his hand chopped off dark , kinda but that's called Tuesday in the south. So no. In episode 3 , Anakin kills 6-12 kids under 12 , he chokes his pregnant wife . That's dark. Now what can be debated is whats the best one. For me its still a new hope . It's  125 minutes of just a great time. empire has the Han and Leia story and  is just a better episode 2.

And now the talk is that the next three are going to suck  and that the first three sucked because Lucas was behind it which I just explained because people have this myth about star wars. stop with the myth and go for the ride because if you only see the negative aspect of star wars you'll miss the beauty of it.

THE 10 BEST IN T.V. 2011

This was a great year for television and i have been reading people/critics list of their favorite shows. these are the same people who complain when an awards show comes out with a list of nominees , that the awards shows cant think out of the box and nominate from the year before then at the end of the year say their favorites are the ones from the previous year. they are the same shows they put on the list last year. So i decided that i love television and as fan of television i have my own list , in alphabetical order since they are all great. SO HERE WE GO! :)

Awkward
The Closer

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Doctor Who

Family Guy

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Luther

Modern Family

Torchwood : Miracle Day

Tosh.O

So there you go. O.K. Outside of sunny i cant stand any F/X show or i cant get into them. AMC. i like mad men but i don't love mad men. they get to do things on that show that if another show got to do that it would be trashed by critics and critics let it happen. walking dead is a fine show just not a great show. breaking bad. tried to get into it , never won me over. I don't have showtime and would never watch Dexter. i watched it at first , never got into it. game of thrones - wake me up when something happens. true blood- south and vampires and a Gothic opening do not mix. these are not my worst , just popular shows , i don't care for. have a happy new year. :)

Review : The Walking Dead Season 2 part 1

From time to time on this blog , I Will be talking about a show I watch and review the season. This time its The Walking Dead season 2 part 1.

now for those of you who are waiting for the DVD or Netflix and you don't want to know , move on , cause I'm a tellin. :).

The season starts off with our gang on a highway. the highway is littered with cars , trucks , vans , campers and the gang decides to check out the cars for things they need. then they notice the zombies coming and instead of picking them off one by one the leader , Rick , tells everyone to get under the cars and not to make a sound. This is all fine and good until a little girl named Sophia runs off in fear , into the woods. Rick goes after her , finds her and tells her to find a place to hide and he'll come find her. And so for the next six episodes , the group goes looking for Sophia. and during that first search , Rick's son , Carl , who is about the same age as Sophia , gets shot by a hunter while looking at a deer. the hunter didn't see Carl and the hunter takes Rick and Carl back to his farm that's owned by a veterinarian and the vet takes care of Carl but he needs some things at a makeshift camp that's at the local school. the only problem is that its filled with walkers. the hunter knows where the school is at and the hunter and Shane , who was a cop buddy with Rick before all this happened , goes to the school grabs the stuff , and tries to get get out of the school where they corner them selves in to getting out of a window in the gym. then the two run to the truck and the walkers are on their tail . the hunter is a pretty big guy , but is moving just as fast as Shane who is in pretty good shape. Shane ,in his psycho selfishness , shoots the hunter so he could get away and get the meds back to the vet so he can save Carl. this drives Shane to shave off his hair. the vet has a daughter and she goes and tells the gang how to get to the ranch. the gang gets to the ranch and makes camp. the vet at first doesn't mind that they stay because of the boy , but once the boy is better then they need to go. one of the gang , Glenn , starts to have feelings for the vets daughter and one day while they go into town , they go to a pharmacy to get supplys and just decide to do it there around isle 4. he begins to like her and she does too and she gives him a note to pick a spot anywhere on the farm. he decides the barn. he goes to the barn. at night and hears strange noises . There are a bunch of walkers locked up in the barn. turns out that some of their family is in there and they are holding them until a cure happens. then the camp finds out and Shane in psycho selfishness , who can barely open the barn door , lets them out and starts shooting them one after one while the vet and the daughter see their family , even though thier zombies , die in front of them. and after several weeks , the last person to come out of the barn is Sophia who is now a zombie and it's Rick that puts her down.

I really like this this show. it's always moving the story forward. it's a show you really cant take seriously due to the situations and the soap opera elements. Doesn't mean that its not great entertainment and well written. I like how Shane is a selfish psycho. he could be a normal psycho but they added that element where you go that was the right thing he did then you look at the big picture and you go he selfish. After all ,he did leave Rick in the hospital bed. Now the question is when does Rick shoot Shane?. The question is never because he will push another one in the group too far . That question is who?.

The first time I felt like a man

It was September , 1981. I just started the third grade. The third grade was the first odd year for me. Yes i had many odd years but this was the first. One of the reasons why it was odd. for the only time during my grade and jr. high years , the bus route changed. for some odd reason , and I only lived a mile and a half from the grade school , the route went from the grade school down the hill to the jr.high. Then instead of turning left at the stop sign in beautiful downtown Hockinson , it took a right. and went a good 3-5 miles to davis road up davis road to 212th , took a left then went another 3-5 miles to my home. Along the way the bus would drop off (use nice word) kids at their home or maybe it was a better home and they were embarrassed by their home. who knows. So in all I lived 1.5 miles from the school. Class got out 3:10 , I was home 4:30. Good times.
But the best time was in September 1981. I went to the movies for the first time by MY self at eight years old and I felt like a man.

I read in the paper that there was a double feature of Clash of the titans and Dragonslayer playing at the Hazel Dell Tri-cinemas. I had to go. I missed them that summer because the only thing on my mind that summer was Superman 2. Not even Raiders of the Lost Ark , my all time favorite movie , was not on my mind. ( That could be another post. Seeing Raiders was a great time too).

So I went. By myself. I had 5$ on me. my mother and my sister dropped me off. This is how I remembered it was September. The movie playing in the big theater was Mommie Dearest. I remember cause the poster creeped me out. It was just Faye dunnaway in a black and white poster but it creeped me out and I looked on the Internet when that film came out and it came out in September. now it was a double feature but I could only see Clash because the other started later and I had school the next day.

So I walk in. Paid for my ticket. Matinee was a dollar for children at that time so I had 4$ left , went to the snack bar. I bought a snickers bar and a kids popcorn. I ate those together for the first time that day. It was like heaven. It was so cool. I'm by myself , back row , and it wasn't the biggest theater around. It was 200 seats if that. It was a three screen cinema , the biggest screen had maybe 750 seats. The other two were small and about half the size of the big theater.

But I'm by myself. I'm eight years old. Having the time of my life , by myself. I didn't have to wait for anyone to go to the bathroom. Ddidn't have to hold a seat. Nothing. So i'm sitting there waiting for the movie to come on. The lights go down. A preview came on. It was for the movie looker. This lady goes through glass out the balcony. I freak out. I don't say anything but I'm like freaked out. Watched that movie years later , bad movie. Then the movie comes on , I'm watching , loving it. Then about an hour in , the scene where harry Hamlin and Andromeda are about to get married and the head falls off the statue and its Maggie smith , the film stars going haywire. I freak out again. I'm by myself there are a couple other people in the theater but I'm by myself , it was kinda cool. The lights come back on and we wait. Every time i watch clash of the titans and that scene comes on , I remember the film freaking out. Then the movie was done and I got up and left. I felt like a man because I saw a movie by myself. I really felt like a man after when I saw boobies in the movie and I'm by myself. Really good times.

Review : Torchwood : Miracle Day

One day and no one dies. and the next , and the next and the next.Thats the premise of the new season of Torchwood , the Doctor Who spin off. Torchwood , in it's 4th season , is an organization that tracks down the alien and supernatural. torchwood is now disbanded. the leader Captain Jack Harkness has fled somewhere , the other teammate , Gwen Cooper , is living with her husband Rhys and their daughter , off of the coast of England trying to leave torchwod behind. We meet a man who is about to be executed for the assault and murder of a young girl by lethal injection and a CIA agent , Rex Matheson , driving at night talking on the cell phone , in the pouring rain. Rex is chatting with his co worker , Ester Drummond and the name torchwood keeps popping up. no one has heard of it. while Rex id driving , a truck stops short and metal rods fly into Rex's windshield stabbing him in the heart. neither one dies due to the miracle. the hospitals dont know what to do . no one knows whats going on or why its going on. Gwen gets some news that her father had a heart attack and rushes to see him. then Ester goes looking to see what torchwood is and runs into or jumps out of a four story building with jack who has planted the name torchwood into the database which gets Rex out of a bed at the hospital still hurting , to fly from D.C. to london to find out if torchwood is behind this or not. i'm just giving you a taste. there is a lot that goes on. there is a doctor that is a love interest for Rex. we find out , again , about Jacks Past . We meet a PR. rep. that helps out the convict cause hes a good story. the tension and love between between Jack and Gwen in episode 7 was one for the ages. is the season perfect. no. but as a whole it was a lot of fun. and i highly recommend it when it hits netflix or DVD .

Netflix Raises Prices

So ,Netflix raised their prices and the world is coming to an end. They raised it by 4$ and people are outraged but they shouldn't. i know most people will be due to the fact that they are cheep , but i remember a time when you could go to a video store and rent a movie and you rented that movie and another one and another one and so on. Then came netflix unlimited rentals for one low price. they gave you several options. then came streaming. then they added streaming to the dvds. well some people just wanted streaming not dvds. others wanted dvds and not streaming. so netflix came up with a plan. and that plan came out. and now people are pulling their hair out. see netflix has a great model. and people like it , the studios?. not so much. netflix is like a scene in the warriors. the warriors are trying to get back to coney island , and they come across another gang and the gang lets them by. then a woman from the neighborhood comes by and tells the local gang that their chicken for letting the warriors pass like that . then the leader from the local gang decides he wants something more from the warriors. the warriors freak out and start running. Netflix is the warriors , Hollywood is the local gang and blogs and wall st. are the woman that lives in the same area as the local gang. netflix is a big company and they are going to pay for content to bring us , better content , better quality , wide selection of titles , and maybe just maybe day and date on new dvd releases. so right now 4$ may seem high , then don't do it. but if it something you love seeing there is always a blockbuster around and you can go back to paying 6$ a title or be that loser that bit torrents. i love that poster on sites that brags about bit torrents chuck. its on free over the air t.v. asshole. just be home mondays at 8. loser.

revisionist history

Last weekend , at a Star Wars convention , George Lucas came out and said that all six Star Wars films are going to be released on blu-ray HD disc. According to some reports and youtube video , fans were thrilled. then he showed what was going to be on the disc. the fans cheered again. then he told us what wasn't going to be on blu-ray. 4,5, and 6 from 77 ,80 and 83 versions that we grew and fell in love with , will not be on blu-ray. why? it would cost too much to restore them.then came the hate , the sadness , the sorrow. not from me but from stupid people. i don't know what else to call them. Lucas decided to make HIS movie the way HE envisioned it. in the mid 90's he took his first three films and restored them. while he was restoring them , he decided to make changes to certain parts of the films so when all six were completed ,no holes in the plot. then Lucas didn't release the first three til the winter of 04 on DVD six months before revenge of the sith came out. then it happened again. he messed with it again. he took out Sebastian Shaw who played Anakin in return of the Jedi and replaced him with Hayden Christensen at the end of Jedi , when Luke see the ghosts of his father , obi wan , and Yoda. some fan were oh how dare he why would he do this , blah blah blah.

i don't have a problem with people complaining when something is wrong. but in this case their wrong to complain. if he just restored a new hope , empire and Jedi , without adding this or that , then the first three would look totally out of place. and with Jedi , you can clearly see he felt anakin died as a Jedi when he became Vader. that's why he put the younger one there. and i love when people complain that Lucas sold out. he didn't sell out. he made a movie. he made six movies. and he was smart enough at the time to keep the rights to his work.to keep the merchandise rights. now i do have a problem with the new stuff and i agree with some that when Han shoots first , he shoots first. cause it looks odd now. he moves his head and greedo shoots first.that is something to complain about. with me my complaint would be the jaba. not that its a bad job , but that it doesn't add to the story. i remember seeing the original scene and it never worked.glad it was cut. but that's my only complaint. and just because you love a movie , doesn't mean YOU own it. he has every right to do what he want with his movie , and you have every right not to watch it.
